The Mary Magdalene cross symbolizes stability, hope, love, and compassion. This heart, cross and anchor symbol embodies Mary Magdalene’s energy and can serve as a great meditative tool. This symbol can remind us to anchor into love and compassion for ourselves and others. The cross acts as a reminder that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
Mary Magdalene is mentioned by name in the New Testament of the Bible in Luke 8:2-3: As being one of the women who travelled with Jesus and supported him financially. In the Gospel of Matthew, Mary Magdalene is said to have been amongst the women who were present at Jesus’ crucifixion and she also witnessed his burial. Mary Magdalene was also one of the first to see Jesus after his resurrection.

Mary Magdalene embodies the Divine Feminine and is an archetypal energy that transcends religion. Mary Magdalene is an example of acting with faith despite adversity. Mary Magdalene was seen as an unworthy or sinful woman by society yet she held steadfast to Jesus and his teachings not letting the nay sayers hold her back. How easy is it for us to become down trodden and to lose our path because of outward influence? One horrible or negative word can have us doubting ourselves and even cause us to try to follow the pack and to conform to what society expects us to be even to our own detriment. Mary Magdalene can be seen as a beacon of light encouraging us to move forward with love and passion and to not let the negative comments of others take us off track.
Mary Magdalene embodies the essence of unconditional love showing how when we tap into our own reserves we have the strength to persevere no matter what the circumstances. Mary Magdalene also acts as an example of how our past does not have to determine our future. In any moment we have the ability to change. We do not need to feel that who we are today is a reflection of who we will always be, the spirit is light and free and whole and made perfect and despite what happens in our lives we have the ability to tap into our spirit and to create magikal changes.
Mary Magdalene shows us how we can make that journey from darkness to illumination by following our hearts and our souls and seeking out those who lift our spirits.
We can call on Mary Magdalene as a teacher and guide by meditating on her name and her energy and the work that she did. We can ask Mary Magdalene for guidance and we can ask her to fill us with her love and compassion so that we too can cleanse ourselves of low vibrations that might be leaving us feeling still in the darkness. Magdalene’s teachings offer us a way to connect with her compassionate heart. Mary Magdalene shows us that when we connect to our own divinity we can awaken to the truth of who we are.
Mary Magdalene embodies the following:
Unconditional Love
Forgiveness and Redemption
Wisdom and Intuition
Spiritual Liberation and Awakening
When we experience spiritual liberation or spiritual awakening and enlightenment we move beyond the limitations and the strong holds of the ego and we are able to see beyond ourselves. The ego is designed to keep us safe and to keep things the same by any means necessary. The ego will step in and be that little voice that tells you you can’t do something or that your not that type of girl or woman to do xyz simply because xyz is something new and the ego does not have control of xyz.
So how do we even begin to move past the ego?
For a start just know that the ego is not your true self and the ego only has the control and power that you give it. To transcend the ego is probably a life long journey of spot checking ourselves and asking which part of me is speaking right now? Is this my Higher self or my Ego? Am I just trying to play it safe right now? This of course takes a shift in consciousness and requires diligence. Many years ago I didn’t even realise that I was talking to myself in my head until I read a book that spoke about our automatic negative thoughts. I thought I don’t talk to myself in my head. The book asked you to wear a rubber band on your hand and snap it every time you thought a negative thought. Well I was snapping that rubber band all day left right and centre and it really brought it home just how negatively I was speaking to myself. I encourage you to try it for yourself. Put a rubber band on your hand and wear it for 28 days. Every time you think something negative snap the band and then reframe your thought into something positive. The exercise helps to train your mind and puts the ego in the back seat for a while. When you begin to see the ego as separate from yourself and not your true self you begin to detach from it and to just observe it in action taking the sting out of the ego’s tail.
Look out for thoughts that follow the following themes:
Being attached to things people and places causing you to feel angry or hurt when things do not go your way.
Identifying with labels, roles and beliefs that put you into a box and limit you from accessing your true potential.
Falling into the role of judge and jury, judging others and ourselves and not showing compassion and love.
Acting from fear which is the ego’s lifeblood and food. The ego needs to control everything and watch out when it can’t. Controlling everything is impossible but the ego never got that memo. Trying to control everything just leads to us feeling annoyed, frustrated, disappointed or angry when things do not go our way and exactly as we planned.
Being stuck in our own story and feeling seperate from everyone else. The ego is focused on Me, me, me. When we move beyond me and look at We its amazing how the hang ups and shortfalls don’t seem so bad when we are working on helping others. When we focus on being of service to others it gives us that boost to do just that little bit more and it takes the focus off ourselves.
Mary Magdalene is a great example of offering compassionate service to others through acts of kindness and actions that benefit others.
Mary Magdalene represents feminine wisdom and she invites us to connect to the feminine aspects within ourselves and in the world.
Mary Magdalene was the one to Anoint Jesus’s feet as an act of love and devotion. We can also do this practise for ourselves. Take 3 drops of Rose or Jasmine essential oil in 5 mls (1 teaspoon) of carrier oil and lovingly anoint your body appreciating all of the work that your body does for you. Spend those few minutes expressing gratitude to your body and incorporate the practise into your self care routine at bath or shower time allowing your mind to just appreciate the beauty that is you. Once you have done this just sit quietly and inhale the scent and let your soul speak to you. You might even choose to have a direct conversation with your soul asking it what it really wants? You can ask what can I do to assist you in achieving what you really want? Or even What would you like to do today?
