The Spiritual Descent A Journey With Hecate

As I looked toward the next offering that I will make in the form of an online course I found myself confronted by the need to work with the shadow and the spiritual descent that is needed for transformation to take place. If you know my journey you know that I have been studying Shamanism and working with Shamanic practises for years. During my own personal work with Shamanic healing I experienced a transmission from the Rose flower whilst it was placed on my body that unlocked something within me and set me on the Rose Priestess Path. I received a spiritual Initiation into the Rose path by the Rose itself. Since then I have been working with the Rose in my own spiritual journey and in some of my offerings. The Rose path is a path of love and light and of bringing higher frequencies into the body. So I have been working with light frequencies and upgrading the energy body and shedding old beliefs. I’ve also been working with Egyptian energies and felt a particular familiarity and connection to Sekhmet the Egyptian Goddess and more work with Sekhmet will follow soon.

This brings me to what has been unfolding for me of late. Along this path of getting to know the Goddess in her many forms as the primordial force Me-ter Neter, Mother Nature, Gaia, Pachamama I have been gently and sometimes forcefully directed by spirit. This time spirit wants to bring through the balance and integration of the Higher Mind/Higher Self/Super Conscious and the Ego/Personality/Outward Self/Conscious mind and finally the Shadow-self, Unconscious/Lower mind. This work with light frequencies needs to be grounded into reality and into the physical. This requires working with the power of 3. The upper world and spiritual self, the middle world and external self, the lower world and shadow self. Where there is light there is always the opposing energy of darkness and without the 2 opposing forces there would be no balance.

As a healer focused on creating transformation I must do the work to uncover the best steps to get transformational results for myself and my students this requires the ability to acknowledge and face the darkness. Its when we hit rock bottom that we find ourselves unlocking powers and strengths that we didn’t know that we had. It’s in the darkness of facing our own shadow and our own fears that we find the source of light. This journey is the journey to the underworld, to the lower world that has been given a bad wrap in society and linked to evil and the devil. The descent into the underworld is the descent into the unconscious and the lower mind, it is a chance to build muscle when the sh*t hits the fan. If We are always basking and surrounding ourselves in light then we are not acknowledging that within all of us is the light and darkness. All the affirmations in the world and positive self talk cannot remove the natural principles of law the duality of nature the light and the dark, the illumination and the shadow, the day and the night. This is where Hecate fits so nicely into the self exploration process. The Greek Goddess Hecate is known as a Dark Goddess just like Sekhmet and Kali. The energy of the Dark Goddess is one of transformation. The Dark Goddess forces you to stare the darkness in the face without being afraid. The Dark Goddess asks you to dig deep into the pit of your soul and your unconscious and to find those aspects that are lurking in the shadows and to shine your torch on them and to acknowledge them, alchemise them and transform them. We know that energy can not be destroyed it can only be transformed and so too the shadow within us and outside of ourselves, shown in the form of violence, hatred, blame, fear oppression, supression can also only be transformed.

To transform the darkness into light we must first recognise the darkness in ourselves and journey to the lower world to the ego self and unconscious self to see what this shadow is trying to tell us. We can flood our shadow with light but if we do not spend time with it and get to know it then the reason for its existence will continue to be there and we will continue to re create the same effects that the shadow brings. The shadow will be forever lurking in the background ready to unleash its darkness at any given moment. Let me address the tendency of light workers to bypass the shadow and to bypass this duality in the world. I completely believe that there are good and bad energies in the world and people can take on other people’s negative thought forms and can become possessed by demons and entities. There are light workers and dark workers both alive and dead just as there is a seen realm and an unseen realm this is all part of nature and as spiritual beings we must learn to stand in our power as a form of protection, setting boundaries and acknowledging that these forces exist. In my next online offering we will be working with the Dark goddess as a force of nature for transformation and healing. The Dark Goddess calls us to do the inner work of transformation, to roll up our sleeves and to get down in the trenches looking at the things that many of us try so desperately to hide and avoid.

As I begin this journey I have created my first working altar for this process. Hecate is the Goddess that will journey alongside us on this path. Hecate is a Goddess of the crossroads, of making decisions, she is a protector and light bearer through the darkness. My Hecate altar has items reflecting my commitment to the Shamanic Rose path, the Altar card with my symbol representing the Shamanic Rose Priestess Path, a cauldron egg cup used as a candle holder, The Gaia statue representing the Goddess herself. the feather representing the air element. The candles represent the fire element. The Stone represents the earth element. The Hag stone represents the water element and Hecate as the wise woman, crone and magician, witch. The stick represents Hecate as Goddess of the crossroads. The snake is associated with hecate and represents the shedding we must do in the underworld/lower world in order to have space to anchor more light. The keys are also representative of Hecate. The Gold Rose card represents the alchemy that we will achieve by working with and transforming the dark aspects of the psyche.

What part of your personality are you trying desperately to supress? Who is your shadow self and what medicine does s/he have for you?
