Junk Journaling for Self-Exploration and Connecting with the Goddess
I have exciting news and an excuse to create another junk journal. I will dive into what a junk journal is in this post but first my exciting news… drum roll please…. I have been selected for a Sponsorship to join the Morgan Le Fay Mystery school Sister Training. I still can’t believe it. Only 2 Full sponsorships were given this year and I was selected for one of them. Seriously my minds blown.I am so grateful, excited and nervous. The school is run by Demi Fox and I have been following her for years, I love her style and way of teaching. The school follows the path of the Avalon Priestess and the Celtic and Druid teachings. These teachings have offshoots that tie into the Rose Priestess Path and the curriculum is based on the Priestesses of Avalon with a focus on Morgan Le Fay. I’ve mentioned before about being priced out of Priestess trainings that I am interested in as I have not had a few thousand that I can put down for a training. I have already taken some Priestess training but I really want a rounded education in the Priestess Healing Arts field and as a newly trained Priestess my studying and journey has only just begun. Seriously since working with the Goddess for the past year magickal things have begun to happen in my life. I am fully committed to the Priestess path and have self committed to atleast 1 year Priestess training in whatever format is in alignment with my goals.I committed to a year of Shamanic studying a few years ago and have never looked back. Priestess training and Shamanism will be a lifelong pursuit for me but to make that do able I always give myself one year and by the end of that one year I’m all in.The full Morgan Le Fay Sister training starts at the end of October and runs for 11 months. It is the first year of Priestess training and ends with a dedication as a sister of Morgan le Fay. I am just honored and excited to learn from such an experienced Priestess. Anyway we have received orientation homework and 1 of them included getting a journal to document our experiences and to take course notes. I had a half made junk journal (book of tea and coffee stained paper) that I had created and not known what to do with and I have dedicated it to the training. I have begun to add additional pages to the book and I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to the practice of junk journalling and show you my book.

I have created atleast half a dozen junk journals over the past few years and it has been a complete joy. I studied Biblical Hebrew for a few years and I created a junk journal for that. I created a Healing and Chakra Art Junk Journal. Ive sold a few junk journals on ebay in the past.Junk journalling really gets the creative juices flowing and you can begin wherever your at. You do not need to be Picasso either. You can create art journals or just stick things into a journal that inspire you. You can cut things out of magazines, words and images. You can include bits and pieces that inspire you such as feathers, postcards, old magazines, ribbons, bits of lace. You could even create art pieces out of scribbling with colours that suit your mood or doodling. You can use stamps in your book and design it exactly how you want. I have taken to creating my own books now by either folding A4 sheets in half and using a ribbon or cord in the centre of the book or by piercing 2 holes into the book and feeding cord through the holes. If you have a sewing machine you can really create a polished book. It’s something you can spend a little or a lot of time on and you can explore art techniques in the book.
Junk journaling is a beautiful and creative practice that allows you to relax, dive deep into self-exploration, and even connect with the divine feminine. By combining creativity with reflection, it opens up an inspiring space for personal growth and spiritual connection. Whether you’re new to journaling or already on a spiritual path, a junk journal can be a powerful tool to enhance your journey, serving as a sacred container for your thoughts, prayers, and creative expressions.
Goddess and Prayer Junk Journals
A Goddess junk journal is a special type of journal dedicated to working with the divine feminine in her many forms. You can use it to document your experiences, rituals, prayers, meditations, or reflections on the goddess archetypes that call to you. For example, a prayer journal may focus on connecting with a particular goddess like Isis, Hathor, or Hekate, where you write down prayers, intentions, and spiritual insights.
In these journals, each page becomes a space to honor the goddess, using imagery, symbols, and writing that reflect your divine connection. You can explore different deities, spiritual symbols, or energies that resonate with your soul. Imagine a page filled with soft pinks and roses to honor Aphrodite or an intricate mandala to connect with Saraswati’s wisdom, the world is your oyster. The process is therapeutic and relaxing and gives you a way to explore your feelings if you wish to. I use my junk journals like a Grimoire to document my findings, and energy healing benefits of things like crystals oils etc. The junk journal for the Morgan Le Fay Mystery school will be the place where I document my notes from the classes, books I’ve read for the course and anything else that comes up during the 11 months. I will have a pretty keepsake once the journey is over and I will also have a handy book to assist me with creating my own Priestess offerings. As a course creator I encourage my students to keep their own notes I do this because I know how useful doing this is. My notes have helped me create my courses and have helped me develop and hone in on my style of teaching and the things that I am interested in and provide a place for me to jot down course ideas. Even when my journals are just for my own development the whole process of creating a junk journal is so rewarding and satisfying and it actually allows you to explore your own shadows, archetypes and roles that you play or wish to play.
Creating Your Own Junk Journal
To make your own junk journal, start with folded A4 pages, secured in the center with a colored cord. This simple yet creative method creates a hand-bound book that’s ready to be filled with your thoughts and artwork. You can experiment with using different types of paper, from recycled material to handmade sheets, to add texture and interest.
Here are a few tips and tricks for making your junk journal unique:
- Repurposing Materials: Use scraps of fabric, old book pages, ticket stubs, pressed flowers, or postcards to create a layered and textured look.
- Art Techniques: Incorporate watercolor washes, stamping, stenciling, and hand-drawing to give your pages personality. Try using washi tape, stickers, or dried herbs like lavender for texture and scent.
- Intentional Decoration: Include spiritual symbols like the Ankh, pentagrams, or sacred geometry, depending on your connection with the Goddess.
- Sacred Space: Use your journal as a sacred space by dedicating it with an intention or ritual. You can bless it with crystals, incense, or anoint it with oils before beginning.
- Creative Prompts: Write down questions that help you dive deep into your spiritual journey. You could ask, “What is the goddess trying to teach me?” or “What aspects of myself need nurturing?”

Junk Journaling for Deep Self-Exploration
One of the most powerful aspects of junk journaling is its ability to offer deep self-reflection. It allows you to explore thoughts and emotions in a way that feels light and creative, but also deeply introspective. Through art and writing, you can explore your dreams, desires, fears, and the lessons you are learning on your spiritual path.
Use your journal as a mirror to reflect your inner world. Write down your dreams and intuitions, draw the emotions you’re processing, and make space for free-form writing that allows your subconscious mind to speak. Sometimes, simply laying down color and texture can reveal what words cannot.
Incorporating spiritual prompts, symbols, and prayers into your journal will help you develop a deeper relationship with yourself and the Goddess energies you work with. With each page you create, you are building a visual and written piece of art that reflects your soul’s journey.
Whether you’re making a prayer journal, a goddess journal, or simply one to explore your feelings, junk journaling is a creative and intuitive way to dive deeper into your spiritual practice. Let it be a joyful process, filled with both reverence and fun.
