Meditating with the 4 elements is such a balancing and peaceful experience. This is the centre of my Shamanic mesa called the K’uychi in Andean shamanism. The centre of the Pachakuti mesa is made up of a shell and meaningful objects to you.
A short and powerful meditation is to place a feather above the shell to represent the North direction and air element. Place a White candle in the East direction to represent the fire element. Place a stone or crystal in the South direction to represent the earth element. Place a shell in the West direction to represent the water element. Spend some time focusing on each element and quietly observe what comes up for you as you focus on each representation of the elements. You can take this a step further and brush your auric field with the feather and visualise clearing any unhelpful energy from the aura. You can light the candle and cup your hands over the fire and then use your hands that have been warmed by the candle to clear your aura with the energy of the fire. You can place the stone or crystal on your Root chakra or on the chakra that the crystal corresponds to or take turns placing the stone first under your left foot and then under your right foot. You can place the Seashell by your ear and tune in to your intuition for insight. The layout also works great as an altar honoring the 4 directions. Meditating with a layout like this can be balancing for the mind body and soul. Leaving a 4 elements layout up in a room can provide balancing energy to that room and can provide a sacred space to meditate or gather your thoughts.

You can also create a focal point for a meditation using crystals. Above Blue Calcite is placed in the North direction representing the air element. Fire Quartz is placed in the East direction representing the fire element. Tree Agate is placed in the South direction representing the earth element. Amazonite is placed in the West direction representing the water element.
You could even use incense burning in the North direction, a candle in the East direction, salt in the South direction and a small glass or bowl of water in the West direction. This is the placement of the directions that I use but you might choose to place elements in a different direction to me and that’s perfectly fine do what makes sense to you.
