Womb Alchemy: Yoni Steaming to Awaken the Root, Sacral & Solar Plexus Chakras

Watch a short video about Yoni Steaming here

Yoni steaming is more than a physical cleanse—it’s a sacred womb ritual, a journey into your deep feminine essence, and a gentle yet powerful tool for chakra clearing and spiritual activation.

On the Shamanic Rose Priestess Reiki path, we honor the womb as a portal of power, creativity, and ancestral memory. This sacred practice of yoni steaming not only supports reproductive and hormonal health, but also restores energetic flow in the Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus chakras, reconnecting you to the sovereign goddess within.

A Red Tent Revival: Returning to Ancient Womb Wisdom

In ancient times, women gathered during their moon time in red tents—sacred spaces of rest, healing, and shared wisdom. Yoni steaming was a cornerstone of these practices, used for postpartum care, menstrual support, spiritual protection, and energetic renewal.

Today, we are remembering this ancient art. Whether done during your cycle, after emotional trauma, or in moments of soul-searching, yoni steaming calls you home to your body and your divine inner temple.

Understanding Yoni Steaming for Chakra Healing

Yoni steaming is a ritual where a woman gently sits over a pot of warm herbal steam to allow the steam to rise into her womb space. It:

  • Clears energetic stagnation in the Root Chakra
  • Awakens sensuality and creativity in the Sacral Chakra
  • Reclaims confidence and power in the Solar Plexus Chakra

It’s also a form of plant spirit medicine, where herbs work not only on the physical womb but also on the energetic and emotional layers.

Preparing for Your Yoni Steam

  1. Choose a quiet, sacred space where you will not be disturbed.
  2. Set up your yoni steam seat (a steam stool, slatted chair, or bowl in toilet).
  3. Prepare your herbs (see below) in a large heatproof bowl or pot with boiled water.
  4. Create ritual space: light candles, burn incense, place crystals, and play soft healing music.
  5. Say a prayer or affirmation (e.g., “I am open to receive healing in my womb, body, and soul.”)

Performing the Yoni Steam Ritual

  1. Let the herbs steep for 5–10 minutes and cool slightly—test with your wrist to ensure it’s not too hot.
  2. Sit over the steam, draping yourself in a long skirt, towel, or blanket to trap the warmth.
  3. Steam for 15–30 minutes, breathing deeply and focusing on your chakras.
  4. Visualize red light in the root, orange in the sacral, and yellow in the solar plexus spinning and clearing.
  5. You may receive insights, release emotions, or feel deeply relaxed—trust the process.

Caring for Yourself Afterward

  • Drink warm herbal tea (rose, nettle, or chamomile are ideal).
  • Lie down with your hands over your womb.
  • Avoid sex, cold foods, or strenuous activity for a few hours.
  • Journal your experiences or take a salt bath to further clear your field.

Who Should Not Use Yoni Steaming: Contraindications and Cautions

While yoni steaming is a powerful and ancient practice for womb and energetic healing, it is not suitable for everyone at all times. Understanding the body’s rhythms—especially the menstrual cycle—is essential. A responsible practitioner or program will always teach you to assess the safety and appropriateness of yoni steaming before beginning.

Yoni Steaming Contraindications: When You Should Avoid Steaming

Yoni Steaming Contraindications: When You Should Avoid Steaming

  1. During Pregnancy
Yoni steaming should be completely avoided during pregnancy. The warming, circulatory effects of the steam and herbs can stimulate uterine activity, potentially leading to miscarriage or early labor. Steaming may be considered postpartum after proper recovery and professional guidance.
  2. During Menstruation or Heavy Bleeding
Steaming during menstruation, especially during heavy flow, is contraindicated. Steam increases circulation and heat in the pelvis, which can cause excessive bleeding or cramping. Always wait until bleeding has stopped completely before beginning a steam session.
  3. With an IUD (Intrauterine Device)
Women with copper or hormonal IUDs should consult a qualified health professional before steaming. The increased heat and moisture could potentially loosen or displace the device. For some, low-temperature or shorter steams may be considered with caution, but medical input is essential.
  4. Active Infections or Open Sores If you have an active yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infection (UTI), or open wounds in the vaginal area, steaming may worsen symptoms by increasing warmth and moisture. Wait until the infection has cleared before resuming yoni steaming.
  5. Fever or Excess Heat in the Body If you are experiencing a fever or inflammatory condition (such as a recent infection or heat-related imbalance), avoid steaming until the body has returned to a state of balance. Yoni steaming adds heat to the system and may intensify such symptoms.
  6. Post-Surgery or Immediately After Birth Avoid steaming until full healing has occurred after gynecological surgeries, C-sections, or childbirth. The steam may interfere with sutures, wounds, or delicate tissues during the initial healing phase. In postpartum care, steaming is often introduced only after the lochia has ceased and the cervix has closed, usually with the guidance of a postpartum doula or herbal practitioner.
  7. Extreme Sensitivity or Allergies Women with hypersensitive skin, allergic reactions to herbs, or a history of dermatological reactions in the vulva or vaginal area should proceed with caution. Always patch test herbs and avoid known irritants.
  8. Certain Health Conditions Women with high blood pressure, epilepsy, or other chronic medical conditions should speak with their healthcare provider before trying yoni steaming. The circulatory and heat-stimulating effects may not be suitable in certain cases.

Understanding Menstrual Cycles and Timing Your Steam

A foundational aspect of womb healing is knowing your cycle. Yoni steaming is best done:

  • Before menstruation to promote healthy flow, reduce clotting, and release stagnation.
  • After menstruation to help cleanse the uterus and support recovery.
  • Mid-cycle or follicular phase to nurture fertility or support ovulation (if appropriate).

It is not recommended during ovulation if trying to conceive, or during the luteal phase if there is a chance of pregnancy.

A Conscious and Informed Practice

A high-quality yoni steaming program will teach:

  • How to assess your cycle and health conditions
  • When steaming is appropriate—or not
  • How to adjust your herbal blends and steam time
  • How to listen to your womb’s wisdom

By practicing responsibly and with awareness, yoni steaming becomes a deeply healing ritual rather than a generalized trend.
