These botanicals are part of the Rosaceae family. The Rose and her Sisters and Cousins fall into the Rosaceae family. The Rosaceae family boasts beautiful flowers that offer deep medicinal, nutritional, and spiritual nourishment. With over 4,800 species, this family includes not only the beloved rose but also a whole host of plants that are central to both traditional herbalism and daily nourishment. Apples, pears, cherries, plums, peaches, almonds, raspberries, strawberries, hawthorn, and meadowsweet all belong to this lineage. This family bridges the worlds of food and medicine, reminding us just how valuable these God Given plants are to the body and soul.
On a physical level, members of the Rosaceae family are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. Rose hips, for example, are one of the richest sources of vitamin C, strengthening immunity and supporting skin, connective tissue, and cardiovascular health. Hawthorn berries, leaves, and flowers are considered premier heart medicine, used for centuries to regulate blood pressure, improve circulation, and strengthen the emotional heart during times of grief. Strawberries and raspberries are mineral-rich foods that nourish the digestive and reproductive systems, while cherries and plums provide anti-inflammatory benefits and support joint health.
For the mind and emotional body, the Rosaceae family has always been associated with soothing and uplifting the spirit. Roses, with their intoxicating fragrance and delicate petals, are powerful allies for easing anxiety, softening the heart, and cultivating self-love. Hawthorn’s gentle yet steady energy helps release emotional blockages and restores balance to the nervous system. Meadowsweet, with its cooling and calming qualities, lifts low moods and clears away mental heaviness. These plants teach us to soften, to let go, and to open ourselves to love and connection.
On a soulful and energetic level, the Rose family offers profound medicine for the heart chakra. Roses are symbolic of divine love, beauty, and the mystery of the sacred feminine, often used in spiritual rituals, anointing oils, and offerings. Hawthorn has long been regarded as a sacred tree in Celtic and European folklore, guarding the threshold between worlds and offering protection. These plants remind us that true healing involves not just the body, but also the spirit and the emotional heart. They support us in reconnecting with love — love of self, love of others, and love of the divine.
Creating a herbal honey can be used purely for its physical benefits but it can also be used to really get to know the Rose family and all they have to offer on an energetic level. When we take just a little bit of a plant into our mouths we get to dial in on what we experience if we allow ourselves to experience the plant with all of our senses. Through being mindful and approaching the plant as medicine we can open up to receiving direct messages from the plant. We can create a sacred ceremony for ourselves taking 5 minutes to experience the medicine in this case of the infused honey or spend longer if we have the time.
The Rose itself introduced me to the frequencies that surround her as an energetic force and the more I dive into her history and lineage within the plant kingdom as Queen of Flowers I find wonderful nooks and crannies to explore.
Working with the plants and fruits of the Rosaceae family is like entering a living temple of heart medicine, where beauty and nourishment are inseparable. These plants — from the rose’s soft petals to hawthorn’s protective thorns, from the sweetness of apple and strawberry to the deep vitality of raspberry and cherry — hold a unique ability to bridge spirit, body, and soul. Medicinally, they strengthen the cardiovascular system, soothe digestion, balance hormones, and provide abundant nourishment through antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Energetically, they are heart-centered allies, gently dissolving grief, softening emotional armor, and helping us embody compassion, joy, and self-love. Spiritually, they have long been associated with love, protection, fertility, and divine renewal, making them powerful companions for rituals, energy healing, and priestess work. By incorporating them into teas, elixirs, honeys, and energy practices, we weave together the physical healing of herbal medicine with the subtle, unseen frequencies of plant spirit medicine, aligning ourselves with the sacred rhythm of nature and receiving support for both everyday health and deep soul transformation.
